2021 Dirty Dozen
This year, I’ve been trying to lay off red meat and increase my daily fruits and vegetables. I tried JJ Smith’s 10-day green smoothie cleanse and this helped jumpstart my progress.
It’s been really difficult to know which fruits and vegetables to buy organic and which to buy regular. As you know, organic is super-expensive; if it’s not necessary, why buy it.
The 2021 Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists are out. These lists can guide us on how to make these organic versus not organic decisions. Strawberries yet again remain in the top spot as having high traces of pesticides. Other favorites on the Dirty Dozen list are spinach, kale and other greens, grapes, bell and hot peppers (a new addition), and tomatoes. Fruits and vegetables on the Clean Fifteen list were found not to have as many pesticides and they are probably safe to eat non-organic. These include favorites like corn, onions, broccoli, and cauliflower (yay cauliflower fufu).
Of course, no one should allow organic versus not organic to keep them from eating fruits and vegetables. Non-organic fruits and vegetables are not as expensive and if it’s all you can get, it’s still much better than french fries and gummy bears.
I hope this helps!
